My new animation demo reel for Prince of Persia - The Forgotten Sands

Here is my new demo-reel of some of the animations I was doing on the video-game production of “Prince Of Persia – The Forgotten Sands” at Ubisoft Montreal. The game has just got released a few weeks ago, so you might want to pick it up in your local game-store.

I was part of the core animation team for a time period of close to two years, working on the Xbox360 / PS3 / PC game. I was mainly focusing on the prince’s acrobatic moves (e.g. platforming) and the ground navigation (e.g. turns, walk- and run-transitions, etc.). I personally had a really good time during this production and enjoyed the quite happy team-spirit and creating these acrobatic animations.

(Video: Watch this video on the post page)

It was great to see the final game come together so nicely. I really enjoyed playing it through from the beginning to the end.

Anyways here is something I’ve tried a few months ago – some kind of bar-music. It’s work in progress:

Transition from HTML via Xoops to Wordpress

After doing all website stuff with simple HTML pages since about 1996 or so, I’ve more and more noticed that it’s actually quite cumbersome to re-program the page each time I want to add something new and therefore I stopped updating it altogether.

In the last two years I’ve played around with the open-source CMS (content management system) xoops for a while and quite liked it, but it had two disadvantages: while the concept is very powerful, it is too complicated to remember and really get into quickly, the other one was that it seemed like the community is slowly moving away from it and the plugins were not updated anymore and stopped working with newer xoops releases.

After having created three different xoops sites for my family, I’ve departed from it and converted everything to WordPress. It’s an amazing program and if you are not a hardcore php-scripter, but like a modern website, I can only recommend it. It has an excellent user-interface and is very intuitive to learn. Also the library of plugins and extensions is huge and of high quality. The only disadvantage is that you have to kind of wrap your homepage around the core of it which is limiting in the layout and one has to find or create a theme which is satisfying.

While I’ve liked my old website layout, which is shown below, I enjoy the easy editing of WordPress. Now my only problem is, that I need to come up with some content to fill this page – bummer.

Bye-bye old homepage!

When I was working at the games studio “Rockstar Vienna” The Austrian new-media magazine e-media made two interviews with me and some of my colleagues about life as a game’s developer.

This is the second one, which was made in March 2006, just two months before the studio was closed by the headquarters.

Before that – in November 2004 they’ve also published this article and interview with me.

Actually quite ironic reading it now, since the title is “the new IT jobs” …which for AAA+ game-development are unfortunately not there anymore, but moved somewhere cheaper in the meantime.
